Project: Containerised Waste Water Treatment Pilot Plant Feasibility Study

The client developed a new process to clean waste water by forming ice crystals. The process used crystallisation and crystal washing technologies to extract the pollutant out of waste water to produce clean water.
The client had built a small prototype of the plant and carried out laboratory trials of the process, which produced promising results. The client wanted to take the development of their technology to the next level by building a pilot scale plant and to prove the concept in the field. The initial market segment they wanted to roll out the technology to was waste water treatment from oil well fracking sites.
Strata undertook a feasibility study to develop the concept of a mobile containerised process unit. A small technical team worked with the client’s scientists at their laboratory to collect data and evaluate the performance of the process.
Following the data gathering exercise, Strata developed the P&IDs and recommended an optimal plant size that could be housed in a 40 foot shipping container. The mechanical layout of the container was developed using the latest 3D modelling tools. The container was designed as a ‘plug and play’ self-contained unit with onboard utilities and services.
