Roger Kimber

Roger Kimber
Managing Director

Roger Kimber
Managing Director

Roger graduated with a degree in Applied Chemistry from the University of Portsmouth in 1996 before moving on to undertake a Doctorate in Dyestuff Chemistry at UMIST.

Roger’s initial career saw him work for an agrochemical company, Agform Ltd, Southampton, as a Research Chemist, developing formulations for granulated herbicides for commercial use, however his involvement with supporting and improving production processes led him to move into pharmaceutical manufacturing as a Process Support Chemist with Perrigo, North Devon, where he supported a wide range of processes including wet granulation, tablet compression, film coating and capsule filling, along with the manufacture of creams, ointments, gels, liquids and pastes. Roger was also a key member of the new product introduction, change control and validation steering committees.

Eventually the desire to move into management saw Roger join a start-up medical diagnostic company, Quotient Diagnostics Ltd, Walton-on-Thames, as their Production Manager. The company, which manufactured desktop analysers and disposable cartridges used in the management and treatment of diabetes, grew at a rapid rate with production output doubling year-on-year over a 5 year period. Alas the rate of growth came at a price with production eventually moving to Germany, after the company was purchased by EKF diagnostics.

Roger joined Strata in September 2013 as the General Manager, was promoted to the role of Operations Director in April 2014 and became Managing Director in October 2015.

Harry joined Strata in September 2012 as an apprentice. He completed his Mechanical Engineering City & Guilds apprenticeship alongside his NVQ portfolio in July 2014.

With solid competencies achieved in bench fitting, working to NIIDs, welding, metal fabrication, hydraulics and pneumatics, safe isolation of electrical appliances, and pipe-fitting associated fittings and fixtures as part of his apprenticeship, Harry has increased his skills further in the workshop at Strata. Now working independently, he has proved to be a great addition to our growing team of mechanical technicians.

Trevor Hesketh

Technical Director

Trevor Hesketh
Technical Director

Trevor studied Mechanical Engineering at Lancaster University with his sandwich course sponsored by the Stockport-based steel producer, Exors of James Mills Ltd (EJM). Subsequently, as a Design Engineer at EJM, his function was to support production of rolled steel, turned steel and bright drawn bars.

After almost two years he moved south to join RSAF in Enfield, the small arms producer within the Government-owned Royal Ordnance group. As a member of the project management team for the introduction of the SA80 weapon system (rifle and light machine gun) he was responsible for resolving the often-challenging problems encountered in both basic design and productionisation. After six years he transferred to the Future Weapons Systems team, and worked in collaboration with the then RARDE Fort Halstead on electromagnetic launch systems – in particular the ‘Railgun’ concept then of particular interest to the American SDI (Star Wars) programme.

Shortly after BAe acquired Royal Ordnance in 1987, Trevor chose to change direction and moved to the engineering branch of BP’s then primary research centre in Sunbury as a Design and Project Engineer. Initially dedicated to the Exploration (upstream) researchers, he worked in the design and construction of reservoir condition permeametry systems. When, in 1992, he joined the Central Design Team his horizons were broadened to include the two other BP major businesses – Chemicals and Oil – and he began to work on process and pilot plants involving high-temperature reactor systems.

In 1998 Trevor Hesketh collaborated with his BP colleague, John Bassett, in the formation of Strata Technology Ltd. Trevor is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
